Portland Transit, Rail, Bus, and Other Groups Lost

  Transit Sleuth

I’ve been thinking a lot, and I don’t mean for this to be anything more than an observation.  There doesn’t seem to be a clear or central location to find out about groups that are pro-transit; either bus, rail, or whatever mode.  What the area needs is a more managed, informative central location to relay communications and other such things.  Right now in the tech industry there are many ways to find out what is going on in this industry, and simply put following the lead of that industry would help transit advocates in a huge way.

So what this blog post is about, is simply to reach out and ask who would be interested in helping with such an effort?  Is there anyone else out there that might want to help put together a centrally managed, open to all, site that could act as forum, news source, and related information for the transit advocate community?  I’d be willing to help get some professional sights up, but beyond that between this blog and the other things I have to do, I’m often limited on the amount of time I can contribute.

So leave a comment and let me know how you’d be willing to help out.  The main points I can think of right now where help would be needed are:

  • Administrators - For management of the forums and such.  This would take all of about 5-10 minutes a day.  Maybe a little more if the site got really popular.
  • Content - We need people to help keep up with news and related items, and specifically to write them up into informative articles that can be published via the site - such as via an RSS feed (like a blog, except pure news related)
  • Meetings & Other Event Manager - Someone that would be willing to help organize, track, or otherwise review events that are coming up.

So anyone interested in this?  I’m also not keen on the standard organizational structure (such as AORTA), I do believe, as with tech, to assure young people will get involved we need to go with a more fluid meeting style and structure.  We need to stay focused on topics of interest and what interest users of the site would have.

So let me know.  Thx.
