I’ve been kind of wondering, but haven’t been able to find out yet. Why is the Red Line not running to the airport this weekend? The new construction closures for the Green Line should be complete, so this has of course come as a slight surprise to me. Anyone out in the blogosphere know what is going on?
I find it interesting over the last few years, that with the advent of the 20 year birthday of the MAX (2 years ago), maintenance has actually started to ramp up a bit. It could merely be because I pay that much more attention to the transit system these days. Regardless, it is very good to see how well TriMet maintains its system versus how poorly the road system is maintained by the city, state, and Federal Governments. In the city’s, state’s, and Federal Government’s defense, they did bite off way more than they could handle when they took over infrastructure funding those many decades ago. After WWII the big push to go auto dependent, one can definitely see were the money just started skyrocketing, and that is ONLY to build to demand and NOT maintain barely any road mileage.
…at that, hats off to TriMet and the transit agencies in America that squeeze by with the funds they have to maintain the meager systems we have left.
